Joe's Music Mill launched a Music Program for students in the Limestone District School Board in Spring 2024.
The program is designed to address elements of the Ministry of Education curriculum. It gives students hands-on introduction to musical instruments, some basic music instruction, and the opportunity to create their own song playing their instruments!
They loved being able to explore new instruments
such as the banjo and the dulcimer.
The Spring sessions were led by Kingston musician and educator Anthea Fever. She developed separate plans for for grades 2/3, 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. The Mill provided a selection of instruments appropriate to the age levels.
Anthea was a wonderful role model for the students,
sharing a wonderful talent and passion for music
in an accessible and engaging way
Over a six week period we brought two sessions to 38 individual classroms in 20 different LDSB schools.
We’ look forward to bringing this experience to more schools and students in the 2024/5 school year. Outreach programs like this reflect our guiding vision to let everyone play an instrument.
